Don't Lose Your Fire!

I read an interesting statistic earlier this week that only 9% of people who make a New Year's resolution actually end up sticking with it...which means that 91% fall away!

And typically this happens within the first 3-4 weeks of the year...which is somehow already behind us.

However, you don't have to wait another 10.5 months until next January to make a change in your health and fitness.

Today is the perfect time to start working towards a new goal that will lead to becoming a healthier, fitter, and happier version of you!

I have been pondering reasons as to why so many people fall off of their health and fitness goals and I came up with the following five:

  1. Pain/Discomfort: If you have been dealing with pain in a certain body region (whether a nagging injury or something that just started), it can be very hard to stay motivated.

  2. Not Seeking Proper Guidance: Most people attempt to carry out a health or fitness goal on their own without actually following a specific plan oriented to their individual body and the goals that they have. For example, if your goal is to exercise more in order to lose weight, that plan would look very different from someone who is looking to build muscle mass.

  3. Going Too Hard, Too Soon: This usually stems from the prior point of not seeking proper guidance. When creating a plan on your own, it's all too common for people to come right out of the gate swinging for the fences only to realize that it's unsustainable. We work with clients to build programs that are achievable and progress in difficulty as their body can handle it allowing them to stay consistent!

  4. Not Surrounding Yourself With the Right People: Surround yourself with people who are going to encourage, motivate, and inspire you! This applies to all aspects of life...make sure to seek out those who will support you through thick and thin!

  5. Comparing Yourself to Others: This can be so hard not to do especially in our age of social media, but it's so important! Don't be discouraged by where someone else is at...this is your individual journey to be the best you can be!

When establishing a new goal of any kind, CONSISTENCY IS KEY!

That's not a glamorous phrase anyone wants to hear, but it's so true.

The most tried and true way to achieve success is to put in consistent work and to follow a specific, individualized plan.
